Coast Guard Air Station Brooklyn, New York, acquired this Lockheed Model 18 (R5O-1), Lockheed registration number 2008, on 14 May 1940. It was purchased for the tidy sum of, and it was used as a VIP transport for top executive officers of the Department of the US Treasury. The USCG later acquired other Lodestars. After the war, these were used primarily for administrative flights and were based at New York and Elizabeth City, North Carolina before the Coast Guard air station was established at Washington National Airport.
